The Collective

Event Vendor Matching Service

summary

The founders from The Collective Huntsville came to us about building an online marketplace for connecting everyday folks with wedding planners and event vendors in North Alabama. We looked at a bunch of different wedding and event sites to decide on an aesthetic, and ultimately produced what we have today. We built The Collective’s website as a mobile-responsive WordPress site, with custom post-types, custom taxonomies, and advanced field options, ultimately making it so that our clients don’t have to touch a line of code in order to update their site.

our roles

  • Wireframes & Prototypes
  • UI Design
  • HTML, CSS, PHP
  • Custom WordPress Development

Challenges

One of the challenges for this project was planning (and building functionality for) the roles that various people would hold, from site administrators to site managers to vendors to users. Wordpress comes with user roles built-in, although we had to tailor these to the permissions of each prospective user type.

Insights

We gained a lot of great experience with this project flexing the power of Wordpress' custom post types. Custom post types allow us to create irregular content that appears in irregular places (yet still with Wordpress' familiar editing interface).

Solutions

The plan is to build The Collective Huntsville's website into a full-blown shopping app so that you can effectively add event vendors "to your cart" in the process of custom-picking your event-planning dream-team. For now, we achieve this effect with a robust web form at the end of the vendor selection flow.
